Colonel Dr. Robert Hale received his dental degree in 1981 from Emory University College of Dentistry in Atlanta Georgia.  After four years as a general dental officer in the Army he spent the next four years at Emory doing his Oral and MaxilloFacial Surgery residency, obtaining his post doctorate Certificate in 1989. He became Board certified in 1992, and recertified in 2002 and 2012.  He spent the next 15 years as a private practicing oral surgeon although he was deployed to Kuwait and Afganistan from 2003 until 2005.  In 2005 he became the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Assistant Program director at the Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston Tx and, after several promotions, is now the commander of the US Army Dental and Trauma Research Detachment.

Dr. Kia P Leung, received his Bachelor of science in agriculture in 1972 from National Taiwan University, his Masters in Microbiology from San Hose State in 1976 and his Phd in microbiology from the university of Hawaii in 1981.  He is currently the Director of Science, US Army Dental and Trauma Research Detachment, US Army Institute of Surgical Research.  His research interests center around host-bacteria interactions and he has been studying the mechanisms by which bacteria adhere and colonize host cells and tissues.  A great part of his recent research activities have focused on the use of antimicrobial peptides to control the growth of biofilms in the oral cavity and in wounds.
